Biotin-PEG4-Alkyne reacts with azides via a copper-catalysed click reaction to produce a stable triazole linkage. The hydrophilic polyethylene glycol (PEG) spacer arm imparts solubility in aqueous buffers and provides a long and flexible connection that minimises steric hindrance involved with binding to avidin molecules. Biotin can be subsequently used for detection or affinity purification.
