Cy®3 is a bright, water-soluble, and pH insensitive orange-fluorescent dye that can be excited using the 532 nm or 555 nm laser line and visualised with TRITC (tetramethylrhodamine) filter sets. Cy3 conjugates give less background than TAMRA and most other commonly used fluorescent dyes.
Cy®3 azide can be reacted with terminal alkynes via a copper-catalysed click reaction (CuAAC). It also reacts with strained cyclo-octyne via a copper-free “click chemistry” reaction to form a stable triazole and does not require Cu-catalyst or elevated temperatures. Cy3 is a water-soluble, bright fluorescent label that can be used in place of Alexa Fluor 555®, DyLight 549® and other dyes excitable at a wavelength of 532 or 555 nm.
This sulfonated dye is also known as sulfo-Cyanine3 Azide. Cy®Dye is a trademark of GE Healthcare.
